Jumpspeak is turn-based and scripted, and it is $499 on iOS against $299 on its own website. Saygood is an open-ended call you can steer while it is happening, at a price you can read before you are charged.
If you are certain you will use an app for years, a one-off payment beats any subscription — just buy it on the web, given the $200 difference. And several rows above say ‘not published’ rather than ‘no’: we could not verify either way, and we will not score that against them.

A course is a good way to get your first few hundred words. The mistake is staying there for two years. Speaking is a separate skill from recognising, it is the slowest one to build, and the only way to build it is to talk to someone who is not waiting for you — as early as you possibly can.
I speak five languages and I have tried more or less everything under the sun to learn them — courses, flashcards, tutors, every app in this comparison set that I could get my hands on. The gap that never got closed by any of it was the same one every time: actually speaking, in real time, to someone who is not waiting for you. That is the only reason Saygood exists.
The lifetime plan was listed at $499 through Apple's in-app purchase and $299 on Jumpspeak's own website. Both are real prices for the same thing on different rails. If you are buying it, the web is $200 cheaper.
It supports AI conversation in a large number of languages. The structured, scripted course content exists in roughly five. That is a meaningful difference if you were expecting a full course in a less common language, and it is worth confirming in the app before you pay.
Because it is. For the other AI conversation apps in this set we could read the company's own documentation and describe what their product does. For Jumpspeak we could not, so rather than assert that a feature is missing we have said we could not verify it. If you work there and we have this wrong, email us and we will change it.
In the App Store's public review feed, billing is the dominant theme in Jumpspeak's low-star reviews — around half of the ones we counted, the highest proportion of any app in this comparison. The recurring pattern is charges users say they did not expect. We are pointing at public reviews, not making an accusation; go and read them.
Not today, and that is the honest answer — you open the app, pick someone, and talk. One is in build, and it is deliberately not another course: rather than a library of lessons, it works out what you can and cannot say from the calls you have already had, and steers the next conversation toward the gap without ever showing you a lesson screen. The first piece — a spoken level taken from a real five-minute conversation instead of a multiple-choice quiz — is due in August 2026. If that date moves, this page moves with it.
Yes, and it is the single most underrated thing in the app. Slang is a dial in Saygood — mostly clean, everyday, street, full slang — and you can move it in the middle of a call, along with speaking speed, how patient they are, and how hard they correct you. Courses teach the careful, neutral, written register almost exclusively, and that is not the register anybody speaks to you in. Learning only that version of a language is how people end up fluent on paper and lost in a bar.
