HelloTalk connects you to real human native speakers for language exchange: free at its core, genuinely social, and the corrections come from people who actually speak the language. What it cannot do is be available at 11pm when you have fifteen minutes and no patience for small talk with a stranger. Saygood's partners are AI, they always pick up, and you can be as bad as you like in front of them. If you can sustain a human exchange partner, do that — it is better and it is cheaper. Most people cannot, and that is the gap we fill.

Putting this second, before the part where we argue for ourselves, is deliberate. Every comparison page on the internet written by a company about its competitors is a page where that company wins every row, and you already know to discount those. So here is the honest list first.
They know what actually sounds weird, they have opinions about your accent that come from a real place, and the social stakes are what make you prepare. We are not going to argue otherwise.
HelloTalk's correction tools on written posts are excellent and cost nothing. Nothing in Saygood replaces that.

One thing, really. When you speak to a Saygood partner, your voice goes to the model as voice and comes back as voice, live — there is no step in the middle where your sentence is turned into text, answered as text, and read back to you. That sounds like an implementation detail and it is the entire product, because it is what decides whether the pause after you stop talking feels like a person thinking or like a machine processing.
It is also the difference between a conversation you can interrupt and one you cannot. Real conversations are full of overlap — you start answering before the other person finishes, they cut in when they realise what you are asking, someone says wait, no, I meant halfway through your own sentence. Practising without any of that is practising a version of speaking that does not exist outside of apps. It is why people finish a course, land in the country, and find that the first real exchange goes nothing like the ones they rehearsed.
The rest of Saygood exists to keep you on the call: partners with a city, a job and opinions rather than a neutral tutor voice; dials for how much they correct you, how much slang they use and how long they wait before jumping in; a recap afterwards of the two or three things worth fixing. But the call is the product, and everything above is in service of you staying on it for ten minutes instead of two.

Largely, yes. You can find partners, chat, get your writing corrected and make voice calls without paying. VIP ($12.99/mo or $79.99/yr on iOS as of 30 July 2026) removes limits and adds translation features.
Availability and embarrassment. A human partner needs to be awake, free, in the mood, and willing to spend half the call speaking your language instead of theirs. And most people are far more willing to be bad at a language in front of something that will not remember it. If neither of those is a problem for you, use HelloTalk — we mean that.
It is a good combination. Do your reps with an AI partner until you stop freezing, then take that to a human who can tell you what actually sounds strange. The AI is the practice room; the human is the match.
It has added AI tools over time, but the product's centre of gravity is still the human network. If you want an AI conversation partner specifically, that is not what HelloTalk is for.
